Updated Weapons Policy and Safety for ConCarolinas 2017

ConCarolinas values the safety of our attendees, guests, vendors, volunteers, and staff.  In light of recent events, we want to remind you of the steps we are taking to ensure your safety.

ConCarolinas’ biggest asset against any adverse acts is YOU.  If you see something, say something.  We already have an off duty police officer scheduled to be onsite Friday and Saturday nights. We are reaching out to the Charlotte Police Department to have an officer there during programming times. Our security team will be in bright orange shirts that say SECURITY on them.  Our Volunteers are in purple shirts.  If you see imminent danger, call 911; do not try to handle the danger yourself.

Our Security team will be inspecting all weapons and peacebonding any and all weapons they deem appropriate for peacebonding.  This includes all prop guns.  Security has the sole discretion to deem your weapon inappropriate. What is/is not permissible lies within the sole judgement of ConCarolinas staff and security personnel.  If you are asked to return your weapon to your room or vehicle, please comply. We will NOT offer refunds because your weapon was denied access to the convention.

As always, ConCarolinas does not allow live steel weapons into the convention space. This means you cannot bring your katana or have your arrows tipped. If you are costuming Negan and making Lucille, please use fake barbed wire and a hollow plastic bat (these are just a few examples). Any real bats are prohibited.  Please use common sense.  If you aren’t sure, then your weapon probably shouldn’t be brought in without at least discussing it with our security team first.

Dealers and Fan Groups displaying weapons must have those weapons peacebonded by security and secured at all times.

Unless you are posing for a picture, keep your peacebonded weapon holstered.  Do not point it at anyone unless they are voluntarily posing for a picture with you (e.g. – Stormtroopers “arresting” a civilian). The SCA events on Saturday will go on as planned.

Again, if you see something, say something.  ConCarolinas takes every reasonable step to create a safe environment, but cannot anticipate everything. By entering or attempting to enter the convention site and convention event, you agree to abide by these rules and all applicable laws. By entering you agree to indemnify both ConCarolinas and all staff/security personnel from any liability or damages, real or incidental, arising from any event that may occur within the venue or event.
